The Family Mass on 7 May fell on Good Shepherd Sunday but, being the month of May, it was also a celebration of our devotion to Mary. As ever, the children led with many of the hymns, including Ave Maria, did the readings and bidding prayers, and brought up the Offertory gifts.
Reflecting this joint celebration, Fr Charles’ homily commenced by drawing our attention to the important place that Mary occupies in the Catholic Church and then followed by reading Bishop Alan’s Pastoral Letter on the theme of the Good Shepherd. In his Pastoral Letter, Bishop Alan calls on us to pray for priests everywhere, and especially for the 12 seminarians in our own Diocese. He also asks us to give thanks for the many women and men who serve the Church through their Religious Orders and to pray for the ability in each one of us to serve the Lord, as that vocation was given to us in Baptism and strengthened by gift of the Holy Spirit at Confirmation.
After Mass, we all reconvened in the hall for coffee and cakes and to celebrate Benjamin’s 14th birthday.
