A record number of young people from across our parish came forward for Confirmation this year. Many congratulations to James, Francesa, Fabienne, Maximillian, Christopher, Evie, Jack, George, Henry, Bailey, Benjamin, Joshua, Ruby, Alessandra, Elizabeth and Michael, who were Confirmed on Wednesday evening, 25 October at St Edmund’s.
A last minute problem occurred that afternoon in that Bishop Alan was feeling unwell following his return from the US, and was unable to Confirm our candidates. Luckily, Fr Charles, in his capacity as Abbot of Glastonbury, was able to step into the breach and take the place of the bishop.
Following the Confirmation service, Fr Charles posed for photographs with candidates and their families, before everyone retired to the hall for celebratory drinks and canapes.
Mass the following Sunday, October 29th, was our opportunity to give thanks as a parish for the gift of Confirmation. It was wonderful to see so many of the newly Confirmed parishioners participating in the readings, bidding prayers, responsorial psalm and the Offertory procession, or as altar servers.
As it happened, one of the candidates, Wenna, had missed the Confirmation service on Wednesday evening, so it was very fitting that Fr Charles was again able to take on his role as bishop and Confirm her, surrounded by all her parish friends.
Best wishes to all of our Confirmation candidates. We, your parish family, are very proud of what you have achieved and look forward to watching you grow in faith, hope and love.
